GoldBod Exceeds September Forex Target with $1.87bn from ASM Gold Trading

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) generated US$1.871 billion in foreign exchange from its artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) gold trading operations in September 2026, surpassing its monthly target of US$1.4 billion.
In an announcement issued on Wednesday, September 30, GoldBod said the funds were channelled to authorised commercial banks and the Bank of Ghana to help stabilise the foreign exchange market and build reserves.
GoldBod said US$701.3 million was sold to authorised commercial banks against a target of US$700 million to support foreign exchange market stability, while US$1.170 billion was provided to the Bank of Ghana against a target of US$700 million to support reserve accumulation.

The figures indicate that GoldBod exceeded its overall September target by US$471 million, with the amount channelled to the central bank accounting for the larger share of the foreign exchange generated.
For October 2026, GoldBod says it projects to generate US$1.5 billion in foreign exchange from its gold trading operations. Under this projection, US$1 billion is expected to be made available to commercial banks to support stability in the foreign exchange market, while up to US$500 million will be provided to the Bank of Ghana to support reserve accumulation under the Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Accumulation Policy (GANRAP).

GoldBod said the planned foreign-exchange sales will be carried out through its newly developed Spot FX Sales/Intermediation Framework, which is designed to enhance transparency, fairness, and regulatory compliance. The Board reaffirmed its commitment to its statutory mandate to generate foreign exchange for Ghana and said it will continue working with stakeholders to support the country’s foreign-exchange and reserve-management objectives.
